TILES

The days of picking glossy square wall tiles are thankfully well and truly over. During the past 3 years the amount of product availability has literally turned the traditional tiling market on its head.

Choose from ceramic, porcelain, glass, marble, slate, mosaic, travertine etc.. The list is endless and now the decision is not what colour, but firstly a choice must be made on what type of product to use.

Before opting for a large format tile make sure your walls can take the weight. Many large tiles particularly travertine and marble are much thicker and heavier than a traditional ceramic tile If you do choose a natural product do make sure you are happy with the overall blend of colour. Slate and travertine can look completely different from piece to piece even when mined from the same quarry. Natural products need to be sealed and may need a particular cleaning and resealing schedule. Also make sure your fixer is aware of what the product is and what type is adhesive is required.
Whatever you choose, take your time and think carefully. Remember once installed tiles are on the wall or floor for an average of 12 years.
